Hainan Island Fall 2009

Hainan Island Fall 2009

We took a short trip to Hainan Island in 2009.
Started off at Haikou city in the north and took a bus down to Sanya where the resorts are.

Hainan island is known as the "Chinese Hawaii", a tropical island with beaches.
Not as nice as Hawaii, I feel, and some parts are just crowded but it is the closest thing to Hawaii for the Chinese without having to go overseas.

We stayed at the Pullman resort in Sanya.
It is not beach front but there is a golf cart that brings guests to the beach, about 5 minutes away.
One nice thing about this is that the beach is at one end and somewhat secluded with much less people.
Four seasons is beach front but so much more crowded.

We also went to a mountain top village attraction for the local tribe.
That was really interesting, got to see their traditions and colourful costumes.
Definitely recommend this place.

This guy below is supposed to be climbing up and down on steel knife blades.
They demonstrated the blades sharpness by slicing some fruit on it.

This is a bridge adorned with "wish pendants".
People write their wishes on these pendants and hang it on the bridge.
Other places use locks as well.
Quite popular in Asia, having seen these in Japan and Korea as well.
