Korean Air First class from LAX to ICN

It was with interest that I saw Korean Air(KE) had their new A380 plane with fancy Kosmo Suites first class seats out of LAX.

Why not take a trip? Nice way to use those Skypass miles!
So, booked a one-way award from LAX to SIN via ICN for 95k miles.

At LAX International terminal, there were armed guards with what looked like a short version of the M16 rifle. Quite a change from other airports!

Lounge chairs in LAX with recharging station. Rather nice touch in a US airport.
LAX Int terminal seems to be recently renovated.

After collecting my boarding pass, went straight to the First class lounge which was actually just a small section partitioned off from the Prestige class lounge.
Had to take an elevator to the 4th floor.

There were also some magazines and newspapers(mainly in Korean) in the lounge.
The other folk in the lounge were older Korean men.
Restroom was actually really nice and large.

An hour later, I headed down to the boarding area.
The gate was located at a corner and there were limited seating which did not make sense, given that the plane is an A380, the biggest passenger plane around.

At around boarding time, the agent who handled my check-in recognized me and brought me inside the gate area. She also stayed with me until I got onto the aircraft, which was a really nice touch!

Boarded the plane first, was greeted at the door and presented with the Bose headsets and Davi amenity kit. The FA also came by with a set of blueish green pajamas by Gianfranco Ferre.
Didn't try them on the plane but they looked really nice and felt great when I used them in the hotel.

The First class seats are "Kosmo Suites" and there is a very open feel to the whole cabin.
There was only one other pax in 2J so the whole cabin felt very private.

Lots of storage areas on the side of the seat.

Staircase, at the front of the plane, leading up to Prestige class(business class) and front Prestige class lounge(Celestial lounge).

First class bar and snack area.
The drinks were supposedly different from Prestige class but as I do not drink, I did not pay much attention to it.

View of the coast line as we took off

The view cam is really nice!
There is also a view cam from the bottom and the front of the plane.

The entertainment system has quite a few new Western movies and a small selection of Asian ones.
Also available were documentaries, short films, games, music etc.
There was more than enough to be entertained for the entire flight.

Here are the menus and I chose the beef tenderloin which I asked for medium cooked.
Food was quite tasty and I really liked the mushroom soup.

The porcelain design on the plates is very simple and looks nice and elegant.
Plates were made by Wedgewood.

The service was very good, great FAs!
I have been very impressed with the KE FAs on all the flights that I have been on so far.

Took a stroll to the back of the plane where the duty free store was located.

The stairs at the back were closed off for general use.
They actually lead up to the back galley, a rather large galley.

Celestial lounge which is very nice looking.
Has magazines, snacks and drinks
Good to see that some pax were utilizing the lounge when I was up there.
It does seem like being back in the "golden days of flight" where there were bars and lounges for everyone on the plane!

I had a ramen noodle snack before dinner.
Could not resist as the other pax was also having it and it looked really good.
Really fancy version of Shin Ramyun. :)

Dinner of roasted pesto chicken thigh and after-dinner traditional Korean tea of some sort.

After the plane landed at ICN, the FAs stood at the aisles so that the First class pax could get off the plane first.
It was a very nice, enjoyable flight.
Looking forward to my next flight with KE.
