Tokyo in 2008

Tokyo 2008

The last time I went to Tokyo was when I was a kid and I hardly remembered anything back then other than a foggy view of Mt Fuji.

So I took a short trip to Tokyo!
Actually, I almost missed my flight as I arrived at the airport and realized I didn't have my passport.
It was a super fast car ride back home and I managed to somehow get onto the plane.
Crappy seat though.

Took a train from Narita airport to Shinjuku station.
Oh my, Shinjuku station is huge and after a long confusing walk, found the Sunroute Plaza hotel.
The room, as with many Japanese and Hong Kong hotels, is quite small.
At least, it wasn't that expensive, around USD100 per night.

Night scenes around Shinjuku
Near the hotel, was a small shop specializing in Ramen.
Ordering the ramen was only via a vending machine with only Japanese words.
Put the money in, press the buttons and give the resulting ticket to the chef.
Needless to say, I had to ask the server for help!

In the morning, I took a walk to Shibuya via some parks.
This Torii gate is most impressive!
Very representative of Japanese culture.

At Shinjuku station, stands this statue of Hachiko the dog.
Famous but sad story of how he waited at the same spot for years for his master to return.

Famous Shibuya crossing in the morning and afternoon.
Nearby is a popular shopping alley Takeshita Street where there are also lots of cosplayers on Sunday.

Snack time!

These two photos were taken from the showroom of Japanese maker Toto.
They are free to visit as well!

Next day, I visited Tsukiji Fish market.
The auctions were too early and besides, they were closed off to visitors.
The tuna were most impressive and there were a lot of tuna around.
Since the tuna were frozen solid, some workers had to use chainsaws to cut the tuna.

Not sure why the tails had to be cut off and shown like that.
Quality check?
If you do know, post a comment about this! Thanks!

Mode of transport for the workers.
They zoom around really fast and u have to avoid these!

Ueno park, a great area for cherry blossoms in the spring time!
I really like this small tea house.

Narita Airport's origami museum post-security.
Most impressive!
